Endodontics

Female dentist showing x-ray image to patientWe here at Cambridgeside Dental Associates specialize in several top-notch services, which allow us to provide an unmatched level of endodontic care. The type of treatment we recommend will vary from patient to patient. Regardless, the following information is here to help prepare you and your family for an excellent endodontic experience!

Our doctors will be able to determine whether or not you need endodontic treatment during your initial consultation. Most consultations involve a review of your dental history and a comprehensive exam, which may include digital x-rays, CBCT scans, and other imaging technology. Once we determine that endodontics is right for you, we may recommend one or more of the following services.

Root Canal

Root canal treatment procedure involves the partial or complete removal of infected pulp from within the tooth. Then it is replaced with a material called gutta-percha, and the tooth is later capped with a dental crown.

Endodontic Retreatment

If your original root canal fails and the infection returns, we may suggest endodontic retreatment. During this procedure, we reopen the tooth, remove any remaining pulp, and replace the gutta-percha. The goal is to seal off the inside of the tooth from future bacteria, and restore its structure and appearance.

Regenerative Endodontics

As a relatively new form of treatment, regenerative endodontics is slowly revolutionizing our field. Regenerative treatment can involve a variety of procedures, but usually involves biologically based materials, such as growth factors and stem cells. These biological materials are placed on a damaged or decayed area with the aim of regenerating healthy tissue.

Endodontic Surgery Apicoectomy

An apicoectomy is a relatively minor oral surgery that involves making an incision in the gums to expose the tip of the root. We may recommend this surgical procedure as a last resort to stifle a reoccurring infection. Once the root is exposed, we will thoroughly clean near or around the tip to eliminate the infection and any remaining bacteria.

Cracked Teeth

While most of our procedures involve the interior of the tooth, we also offer treatments to correct cracked teeth. The type of treatment we recommend depends on the size and severity of your fracture. The most common procedures for this issue include dental bondings, dental crowns, conventional fillings, and even veneers.

Dental Trauma

A blow to the face can cause a dental injury or trauma that requires endodontic treatment. Along with cracked teeth, trauma can include displaced teeth, chipped teeth, soft tissue injuries, and knocked-out teeth. If trauma does occur, be sure to give us a call as soon as possible, so we can assess the situation and help save the tooth!
