At Cambridgeside Dental Associates we specialize in a wide variety of procedures designed to maintain or improve your periodontal tissues. The periodontal (gum) tissues are an important part of your oral health. Our experience and expertise in periodontics allows us to provide high-quality treatments you cannot find anywhere else!
Deep Cleaning (Scaling and Root Planing)
If we diagnose you with periodontal disease, you may need a deep cleaning. Also known as a scaling and root planing, this procedure is designed to eliminate large deposits of plaque and tartar. After your deep cleaning, your gums should return to a healthy, pink state.
A frenectomy is a minor surgical procedure that involves the removal of the lingual or labial frenum. We may recommend a frenectomy to improve the mobility of your tongue and allow for proper speech (removal of lingual frenum). Removing the labial frenum may be necessary to close the gap between the two front teeth.
Some people are born with uneven gums or an excessive amount of gum tissue. This can create aesthetic issues with your smile. We may recommend gingival contouring to improve the balance between your teeth and gums, giving you a more beautiful smile!
Gum Graft Surgery
Gum graft surgery may be the best way to address severe gum recession. Gum recession can be the result of periodontal disease, aging, trauma, over-brushing, and misaligned teeth. Gum recession can result in substantial sensitivity issues, pain, and poor smile aesthetics.
Soft Tissue Grafting
Soft tissue grafting is also used to combat gum recession. The three most common types of soft tissue grafts include free gingival grafts, connective tissue grafts, and pedicle grafts. The type of soft tissue graft you need depends on the severity and location of your gum recession.
Many people experience bone deterioration after they lose a tooth. If you need dental implants, but have experienced bone deterioration, you may need a bone graft. The graft material will foster the growth of new bone healthy enough to support a dental implant.
A dental implant is an ideal solution if you are missing one or more teeth. As a periodontist, Dr. Shamardi specializes in the treatment planning and placement of dental implants. Once in place, the implant will serve as the root component of a dental prosthesis. Because it becomes a part of you, an implant is the next best thing to your natural tooth.
Periodontal disease is an infection that can spread to the innermost part of the tooth, resulting in significant pain and discomfort. We may recommend an extraction if the infection is so severe that the tooth is beyond repair. An extraction can stop the infection from spreading and endangering your surrounding teeth.
Platelet Rich Plasma
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a by-product of the blood that possesses a high amount of the platelets responsible for the healing process. During a minor procedure, the PRP is separated from the rest of your blood plasma in a centrifuge. PRP can expedite and improve the healing process following some surgical procedures.
Platelet Rich Fibrin
Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is similar to PRP in that it helps regenerate tissue after oral surgery. However, PRF requires a smaller blood sample due to a higher concentration of healing factors. PRF is spun at a slower speed in the centrifuge to keep more of the white blood cells and stem cells in the platelet layer.
Chao Pinhole Gum Surgery
The Chao Pinhole surgical technique has revolutionized treatment for correcting gum recession. Through a small hole made with a needle, we can move some of the underlying gum tissue, and slide it over the recessed area. The procedure does not require the use of scalpels and sutures, resulting in virtually no post-operative symptoms!
